I am police officer working in the Grampian area. We have had some local complaints regarding some young lads riding their motocross bikes round a small and unused football field near a small village. The problem is that there is nowhere else for these kids to ride their bikes legaly. My concern is more a safety and insurance issue however there is also a nuisance issue to address too. Are you aware of any Motocross practice tracks in the Banff and Buchan area that are within reasonable reach of Peterhead? To be honest the lads could do with a track being set up in the local area and I would appreciate some constructive advice as how to go about doing this. I’m guessing that you run into the likes of planning laws and there are costs related to liability insurance and cover for legal costs in the event of accidents. Many thanks for this because the last thing I want to be is a “killjoy”. The lads are not as yet in any bother for this and I would hate for it to escalate into something more serious.
Thanks for taking the time to help with this.
Regards.

Hi Iain, Unfortunately I am unaware of many tracks in that area I am from the South East UK myself so have little knowledge of tracks in Scotland only what i’ve read from other sites. There is a very popluar forum called “MX Trax” which also has a tracks section maybe it’s worth you posting the question there.

There is a real shortage of tracks in the UK and this does lead to lots of people riding illegally and causing a nuisance, the common factor shutting down tracks is the noise complaints. It’s a catch 22 situation because people don’t want you riding all over the place but complain about tracks because of the noise and getting them closed this in turn as you know drives people to ride illegally again.

The sport is growing and the tracks are disappearing so all they’re doing is making illegal riding more common. There is also a factor in which a track may have been around a while and then they slowly start to develop housing closer and closer to the tracks, then complain about the noise and they get shut down which is a real shame. Anyway rant over sorry I couldn’t answer your question like I said above try MX Trax it’s probably the biggest UK motocross forum I’m sure someone could shed some more light on the situation there.
